DMOZ used to be one of the most powerful open directory of websites from across the world. However, the service was discontinued by AOL, which was managing it. The directory listings of DMOZ are still available in an archived state, and attempts are underway to revive its operations. But, the directory is presently not accepting or updating its listings. So, it is not clear how important it is for search engine rankings. That being said, when it was in operation, it was considered to be an influential directory. Search engines like Google ranked the websites reviewed by DMOZ because the directory’s reviews were considered to be dependable.
