It runs the exact same set of SEO, performance, and technical checks we use in our full site audit — separately on your website and the competitor's — then lines up the results side by side. Every metric is measured live, in real time, from the actual HTML and headers each site returns, so you're comparing genuine current data rather than cached or estimated figures.

For metrics where a clear direction is better — like a higher SEO score, a faster load time, or fewer images missing alt text — we highlight whichever site scores better on that specific row. It's a simple, mechanical comparison of the two numbers, not a judgment about which site is 'better' overall, since a single metric rarely tells the whole story on its own.

A handful of metrics don't have an objectively 'better' direction — more external links isn't automatically good or bad, it depends entirely on context like whether those links are relevant, authoritative, or just link spam. We still show the number for both sites so you can judge it yourself, but we don't force a winner where the metric itself is neutral.

Right now the tool compares exactly two websites at a time to keep the results focused and easy to read. If you want to benchmark against several competitors, simply run the comparison again with a different second URL each time — each comparison only takes a few seconds since both sites are audited in parallel.

The overall score shown here is calculated the same way as our full audit — an average across every scoreable check, from meta tags to mobile-friendliness — so a matching URL should return the same number in both places. If you see a difference, it usually means the page has changed since your last audit, or one of the checks temporarily failed to load and was excluded from the average.
